This is the number one question to ask of yourself when you first start blogging – and then periodically over the years, as well. “If you build it, they will come” only works in the movies. There is a thought process that needs to be followed to give your blog a chance to shine and really succeed.
The first person to question is yourself. You are the owner of your blog. You are the one seeking readers for what you have to offer. The issue is that most niches are saturated with other bloggers. They’re all vying for the same readers – or are they?
What is your Market?
Let’s begin in general terms. You are a marketing blogger, for example. Marketing has many facets and can mean different things to different types of businesses. Trying to create a blog that speaks to all facets of marketing won’t appeal to anyone. Here’s why. Each person will be expecting information that speaks to their needs specifically. What they will likely get is a page about their need and fifty other pages that appeal to fifty more people.
Marketing has many niches. The trick is to find the niche you want to focus on and speak to that audience. Young people who are looking for a new income stream might be your passion. Or, it could be older professionals who have been downsized and want to create an online business as a second career. The choice is yours.
What is your Current Audience?
If you’re a blogger, chances are you already have an audience. Look at the content that is connecting with them the most. Which posts are your most popular? Which ones are people commenting on? Sharing with their friends? Create more content like that – dig deeper into those topics. Let any other ideas wait while you work with the reader base that you have established.
What is your Marketing Strategy?
Now that you have a blog, how will you let others know about it? More importantly, how will you convince them that they need what you have to offer? Start by connecting with your potential audience online. Show that your blog is one that offers the help that they need, and people will pay attention.
The Big Reveal
What makes your blog different from other blogs? It might be what you say in particular. Maybe you have new information that sheds a different light on what your readers already believe.
It could be your skills. You’d be surprised how many readers are turned off by poor editing and grammar. Maybe you have a way with stringing syllables together. That emotional connection with a reader can convert them into a follower.
Ultimately, what can make your blog different is that it is being marketed to the right people. There are a lot of businesses aiming their information and products at the wrong audience. When you ask yourself a few questions and follow through with implementing the answers, you’ll be amazed at what your blog can do!
What Makes YOUR Blog Unique?

This is a question that I ask myself often. With thousands of mommy blogs out there I often ask myself if I am standing out. Then I take a deep breath and look at my purpose. I know I am unique simply by being a woman blogger from Wyoming and my goal is to help other women to feel support in their lives. If I have done that for one reader I have met my goal 🙂 and standing out doesn’t seem so overwhelming…hopefully eventually my work will do that on it’s own!

That’s so great! And, honestly, it all starts with impacting that one reader at a time – I love how your focus is so much on helping your readers!
ya that’s the first ques raise in my my mind what can i do for make my blog unique. the things you mentioned above really gonna helpful for the bloggers like me. I appreciate your work.. thanks alot for sharing this.
Hi Tanya,
Great points. One has to look out for the uniqueness their blog represents, And for that, there has to be something different among same niches to compete and be at top. Standing out of the world and shine is not an easy task but those who try it, get results they want by continuing the good thing.

I am still struggling with this one…. Over 2 years in and I find no relief in sight!
I’m passionate about this but I’m lacking and feel like a tiny fish in a HUGE pond!
I cannot afford to pay for the “professionals” to help me get my blog and social media branding “Orderly” and so I ended up with not posting much anymore.
I focus on adult daughter caregivers with a christian theme.

How do you stand out when your blog supports the products you sell from a direct sales company? There are 40,000+ sellers of my exact products!!! Not all of them have blogs, but many do.
I really like this article and it totally rings true. When I started a fitness blog, I tried to think how I could be “different” from other fitness bloggers. One thing that I found separated myself from others was having battled weight myself and being able to write from personal experience made things easier. Thanks for sharing!

That’s a great idea, Janelle – people love reading REAL stories!
Fresh content with a personal touch will always ace the competition. So long as people actually want to read what you’re writing, you’ll make it big eventually.
This is the question I’m asking myself today. How can I make my blog different than everyone else in my niche? As a book blogger, that is kind of hard. Right now, I’m going to go back to square one. I’m going to make my blog all about the book reviews again. For a while I was doing all of the fluff posts and giveaway posts that I saw all of the other book bloggers doing. It has gotten to the point where they all look the same. So today I vow to rework my blog and make it mine again!
