U.S. Coins and Paper MoneyLooking for some ways to boost your Affiliate sales?  Check out these tips and tricks!

#1 – The Most Important Tip

The most important key to having a successful affiliate marketing program is to choose a high-quality product. Promoting affiliate products on your site means putting your credibility on the line. If you try to sell your visitors on a shoddy or second-rate product, you will lose their trust and their business.

#2 – “Sell” Your Product

When working as an affiliate, you cannot assume that people know what the product is or what it does. And you certainly cannot assume that people know how the product will benefit them. You need to spell this out in a clear and concise manner. Readers only know what you’re telling them about the product.

#3 – Choose Where You’re Sending Them

Where you put affiliate ad graphics and links on the page is as important as what you choose to link to. Tanya’s Note: Make sure you actually visit the page that you’re sending your readers to.  You want the information they find there to be clear and really help them understand what the product is all about.

#4 – Place Your Ads Wisely

If you have a menu at the left, putting a small graphic at the top is good. Links within content are also excellent, as is at the end of an article right above the comments.

#5 – Would YOU Buy?

Check out the website of the affiliate program you’d like to join and consider whether you would buy from it. Does it look professional? Is it eye-catching? Can you easily navigate it? How hard is it to find help? Is there a phone number and address available? If you trust it, your readers will, too.

#6 – Use Article Marketing To Grow Your Reach

Make sure you are submitting quality articles to the major article marketing directories every weekday. Don’t let up – build this into your routine so that it happens without you even thinking about it. Hire a virtual assistant to login to the directories under your name and upload the articles for you each day.

#7 – Be Honest

When using affiliate marketing, be sure to be honest about your intentions. Let the visitors know that you are doing affiliate marketing. When you are honest with your visitors/readers, you will gain their loyalty. When a reader uses your referral link, they will feel good about it if they know that you are using affiliate marketing and that they are able to help you.

#8 – Treat Your Readers Right

It is important that you treat your website visitors right. They know an affiliate advertisement when they see one. If you endorse a product that you do not believe in or if you take advantage of their visit with excessive ads, then they will not visit your website in the future.

#9 – Broaden Your Horizons

Some people avoid promoting high-ticket items through their affiliate marketing business because they feel that those items are too hard to sell. However, your sales skills often play a more important role in your success than the cost of the product. If you can write effectively, you can let potential buyers know how the product looks, feels and sounds. You can give them a sense of what it would feel like to actually own the product. Appeal to their senses in creative and tempting ways. Make them feel as if they can’t live without the product, for another day.

#10 – Affiliate Marketing Is For The Long Term

Affiliate marketing should be approached as a long term project. It all starts with building a web site or blog. The consistent creation of great content and the generation of traffic is next. Only then should affiliate links and banners be added. As one progresses it become easier to determine the right placement for the ads and the type of content that converts. So, be prepared for the long haul to become a successful affiliate marketer.

#11 – Once You’re Comfortable… Promote!

If you plan to hold a contest with an affiliate company, promote the heck out of it! You’ll have to dedicate the bulk of your time to posting the link on forums, social media, contest directories, “Linky” lists, and any website which shares a similar topic to yours. It’s a lot of work but the increase in sales will be worth it!

As previously explained, affiliate marketing can be a wise marketing strategy.

Every business could benefit from having more customers or developing new ones.

  1. Tanya,

Solid grass roots tips you’ve share here! It’s soo easy, especially in affiliate marketing, to overlook certain strategies!

Whether it’s due to always finding new products or simply ‘adopting’ the numbers game thus assuming more traffic will compensate for poor marketing!

Great information and something we can all use to ‘reboot’ our focus and get back on the ‘right’ track … that being long term success! This requires relationship building and reputation management! No shortcuts here!

Thanks for the read and reminder!

  2. Great article and I’ve saved it for future reference.
I don’t have a question about the article, but I DO have a question about your email sign up box. Under the post, there is a nice bold sign up box which looks like a graphics, but has a box to accept the email address. I’ve been searching everywhere for how to make something like this for my WordPress blog for my MailChimp newsletter – but its a mystery to me. Can you point me to a tutorial or give me some tips on how to make one for my site?
Thank you so much – am on the upcoming 4-week e-course and very excited about it.

    • Deby, I did that using the html coding for my sign up box from Aweber. You might contact Mailchimp and share this link to see if they can help you get the same results.

  5. My brand new blog is still in the design process, but for all the blogs I have I stick to the rule that I only recommend what I really know and use by myself…

  6. I really think “would you buy” is the most important part. Your site is supposed to be an extension of yourself. The best blogs are the ones that are honest. That should extend to the ads. If you think something is a piece of garbage and somebody tries the product, it’s on you. Aim for satisfaction accross the board.

  7. Good tips for sure. I try to sell only items I personally would buy if I was in the market for it. Plus you have to have traffic to get sales rolling for sure. I have worked hard for 2 years to gain more traffic!

  8. Honesty and the fact that I would buy anything I talk about is key to me. I probably could sign up for a bunch of ads that have nothing to do with my blog subject but I would rather pick and choose just a couple that would actually interest my readers! Thanks for the tips, perfectly timed as I start to wade through the affiliate jungle!

    • It is a very clever move not to put all the eggs in one basket. It keeps you safe when you are in trouble with one. I am yet to get started with affiliate marketing. So gathering knowledge about affiliate marketing at this point. 🙂

    • Nate, I have worked with Amazon in the past and it has worked well! It really depends on your niche and the products that you would be recommending but I know that there a lot of bloggers who are using the Amazon affiliate program and have seen success with it.

  10. Affiliate marketing is getting more and more difficult. With saturated competition – the only way to actually improve your affiliate conversions is to provide more REAL VALUE than other online marketers.
With marketing in general, being creative is usually a crucial process to help providing more value. People are attracted to things they haven’t observed before, that’s why it is critical to constantly tweak, test, and take risks!(or know somebody would you! )

PJ Gahagan is probably the top affiliates on the planet, and he will throw in some pretty unusual things in his promotion strategies. He’s got a no cost webinar and learn some of the make unique affiliate tactics i’ve ever seen (that happen to be killing conversions in my opinion! )

  11. Honestly affiliate marketing is still one of the best way to make money online today, but i discover that nowadays most new bloggers only start blogging when they are in need of money which if well check is totally against what blogging is meant for. Inasmuch as they are willing to do anything to get adsense approve to me is far better doing the whole job on affiliate marketing there are millions of products to market online get the one you have use or very very sure of describe how it works and some benefit it offer post it online and give it time which is the most important thing here and watch how the money will start rolling in on it own , i have being doing it am still doing it and i will continue doing because it works all you need is just give it time it works.

  12. In my experience, most affiliate programs don’t work because the returns on them are so low that it’s not commercially viable. You need money, time and more importantly, the right knowledge to generate quality traffic that will buy your offers.

In order to make it commercially viable, it helps to join affiliate programs that pay big commissions and give you a high return so you can profit quickly and grow your business fast.

Anything else is the slow road to failure so you need to make it profitable fast!

  14. The best affiliate marketing partners to work with are those that provide enough communication with their webmasters. Affiliates that have established great customer service and feedback systems in place are easier to work with than fly-by-night advertisers. Partnering with affiliates that have plenty of support available will reduce the amount of hassle website owners have to go through to make affiliate marketing pay off.

The world of affiliate marketing has a little something for everyone, but what works for one person may not for another.
