I don’t know about you, but I have plenty of things that keep my life busy. And that’s not to mention blogging and trying to grow a blog. With a number of simple steps, you can cut down on the time spent managing your blog so you can work smarter and not harder.
Blog Management is Essential to Grow Your Blog
If you really want to make money blogging, you’ll be surprised at how quickly the time can add up. Quite honestly, blogging can be a time suck. There are various ongoing issues that you must deal with for effective blog management. You have things to deal with everything from design issues, to keeping up with updates, to networking with other bloggers…just to name a few! Time can easily get away from you. As opposed to just aimlessly working on your blog, it’s important to find ways that you can make your work more efficient and thus more profitable for you and your blog. What exactly are some productive blog management tips you can implement? I am glad you asked. 🙂
Managing Your Content is a Great Place to Start
When you manage a blog then content is largely the name of the game. Once you’ve determined a posting schedule – will you be posting five days a week, or just a couple of days a week – your next step should be to develop an editorial calendar. There are a number of ways you can do this.
If you use WordPress, they have numerous plugins that can help with this, or you can go simple with a Word document. There are numerous benefits to an editorial calendar. Mainly, it allows you to mold your blogging voice and ensure that you’re not talking about the same topic too regularly but it also allows you to plan what you’ll be writing. Not only can this help avoid potential writer’s block, but it’ll ultimately help your blog management and will free up time to focus on other things.
A common argument against the editorial calendar is that it does not allow you to be spontaneous in your writing. Well, the beauty of the calendar is that if a blog post idea pops in your head you can just move your scheduled post back to a later date.
Automate, Automate, Automate
The next vital step to blog management is automation. I know some do not like automation, but it can be a huge time saver.
The easiest place to start with automation is with social media management. If you read my post last week on social media promotion, then this is the next step. Using a platform like Hootsuite or Twitterfeed can help you accomplish the same result of sharing posts without the time aspect.
Just remember that there is a balance to this, so make sure you remember to socialize with others so they do not feel like they’re dealing with a robot.
