Knowing when to monetize a blog can be a difficult decision for many bloggers as they’re starting out. There are many different ways to make money blogging and different routes to take, but ultimately there is no true right or wrong way to monetize your blog, as long as you’re wise with your approach. That said, monetization can be a sticky subject for many bloggers, but a wise approach can help you monetize your blog and do it well.
Know Your Blogging Goal From the Beginning
Knowing what your blogging goals are can be extremely helpful when you first start monetizing your blog. If your goal is to make consistent income off your blog some will argue that you should start putting up ads right away as you start blogging. This is as some can be turned off by seeing ads and if you start putting them up later, so the argument goes, you could alienate some readers and send them away. Regardless if you start putting ads up right way or not, by knowing what your goals are you can help determine when the right time is to begin to monetize your blog.
Monetize Your Blog on Your Terms, But Be Wise
At the end of the day, you’re the one who needs to be happy with what your blog looks like – thus the need to know what your blogging goals are. Ultimately, you need to do what is best for you, your blog and your readers. Many readers will understand that you want to make money blogging, but you also don’t want to turn your blog in to one big pitch that is always trying to sell something to them. You also don’t want to miss out on opportunities to share items with your readers that you feel will benefit greatly from – thus the balance. Keep this balance in mind as you monetize your blog and you should do well in your efforts to make income off your blog.
Watch Your Expectations
The belief is that you can put up a site, throw in some affiliate ads and you will start making money in no time at all. Allow me to let you in on a little secret – it takes time to make money blogging and it generally does not happen overnight. It takes work and it takes testing to see what works best. Don’t allow that to hold you back from trying to monetize your blog as there can be some good income to be made off of affiliate products and the like, as long as you’re willing to put in the work. Do yourself a favor as your starting to monetize your blog and be genuine in your approach as readers can sense that. Being genuine can go a long way towards helping or hindering your desire to make income off your blog.
