Are you wanting to create more content for your blog, but don’t know how you’ll be able to find the time to do it? Do you feel like you could bring your site to the next level if you only had more time to focus and write?
As bloggers, we wear many hats. We’re writers, CEOs, marketers, operations managers, graphic designers, and editors. Many of us are also parents, spouses, friends, and employees.
Finding time to dedicate to creating content is a challenge when we have so many other responsibilities that fill the hours of our days.
Here are some ways to carve out more time in your day to dedicate to creating content:
Ways to Make Time to Create Content
- Take a social media break for a few days. Every time you have the urge to check Facebook, send a tweet, or upload a picture to Instagram, write a few sentences for a blog post instead.
- Find ways to minimize your commute, and use that time to write. Instead of driving home after dropping your kids off at preschool, go to a coffee shop near the school and write. If you know traffic will die down if you stay at work later, spend some time writing after your work hours are over. Depending on your situation, there may be a lot of opportunities for you to build more writing time into your day by re-working your commute.
- Carry a notebook with you, and start writing when inspiration hits. If you think of a great blog post idea while waiting in line at the grocery store, whip out your notebook, and start jotting down your ideas, or even the first few sentences of your post.
- If you have a smartphone, try using the speech-to-text feature. I use the speech-to-text feature to take “Notes” on my iPhone. If you do this a few days a week while you’re waiting to pick up your kids from school, you can get a lot written. Make notes on your phone, and then email them to yourself to use later.
- Wake up early or stay up late. Depending on if you’re a morning person or a night owl, using the time at the beginning or end of the day gives you time to focus on creating content when your house is quiet.
- Re-prioritize. If you’re in a time crunch, it’s okay to let things go sometimes. Instead of making home-cooked meals every night, have a crockpot meal or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Take some things off your plate so you have more time to write.
- Make plans to get away. A lot of bloggers and writers take large chunks of time to create content. If you can get a babysitter or a friend to take care of your children on a day when you don’t have to work, spend a few hours working at the library. Working in bulk can be more time-efficient and allow you to get more done in less time.
With a little creativity and juggling, it is possible to find more time to write.

Great tip about text to speak! Thank you!
I’ve been really short of time this last couple of weeks so all suggestions are appreciated. (I shall pop back to see what other’s share). Having said that, it dawned on me that I could use that lack of time as inspiration for my latest post.

Sue, I’ve found that sometimes time away from the blog can be the best time to get some new inspiration. 🙂
I find that if I collect and import photos into the media file on my subject then just start typing in wordpress the post moves along much faster and easier. I just refer back to photos to keep me focus. Tanya you have been a big help for me as I filter through so much info on blogging.
That’s a great idea, Brenda! So glad that we’ve been able to help make blogging a little less overwhelming! 🙂
One thing I’ve been more paranoid about than anything. This has ideas I can actually do. I”m starting to post in June and I got a tip to have a stash of posts before you start and a notebook would help greatly. I’ve have several ideas and couldn’t recall the fine details when I got back home.
Hey Balie! Don’t sweat it too much. The most part of having a blog is the content! I highly recommend just making a habit of sitting down to write everyday, for a set amount of time or for a set amount of words, and then working to publish it all. The nuances and trick of the trade will come slowly, but you’ll get it!
These are actually helpful tips and what I was looking for.I most of the time stay bit late and write few posts.Another thing I do is,once a week I use one day only for writing blog posts.Even I don’t reply for emails. 🙂

Love these tips! I think I feel less pressure when I try to get ahead of my post schedule and tell myself I’m just ‘drafting’ a post and can finish it later. It’s usually 95% done when I finish my writing session. Off to draft….
Wow…this article actually brought me back to my senses due to my tight schedule I update my blog twice a day but after reading this looks like everything is about to change…thanks for the article
I like the idea of writing instead of using SM. A few days ago I joined a 31 day challenge to write 500 words a day. Think it is really going to help.

Keeping a note to myself has helped alot. I lovedt he idea of a crackpot meal so that it saves time too. Delegating works can really help too.

Very good post on time management. One will have to make spare time in chunks within 24 hour routine to get the job done. We get lot of time while waiting someone like on dinner, or we need to wait for boss when he/she is in meeting, etc. I think these waiting times are best to write something on a notebook.
Great ideas, Khaqan!
#3 is something that has saved me so many times. You never know when inspiration is going to hit; so being able to make sure you jot it down before you lose it is amazing. I find once I’ve written it down I tend to keep it churning in my head longer; which means by the time I get to my desk to start writing I’ve got a pretty good outline planned.
