As many bloggers will tell you, we’re always looking for ways to increase blog traffic. Unless your desire is to be blogging in a cave then you’re almost always looking at this as so much of blogging comes down to numbers – especially if you’re looking to make money blogging. While there are many ways to increase blog traffic, not all of them are efficient. There are some methods though, that when done wisely, can bring additional visitors to your site.
Effective Use of Social Media
I’ve spoken before about the great tool social media can be when you’re blogging. It’s a no-brainer then that, when used effectively, social media can be a big driver of traffic to your blog. There is a method to the madness though. Remember to be selfless in promoting others’ work and automate when you can, but you also want to be social and target others who are active. These all can combine to bring additional traffic to your site, not to mention some good blogging relationships.
If you bring more people to your site and the content is not solid, do you think they’ll come back for more or stay on your site? It’s likely that they won’t. With that in mind, you also want to focus on writing SEO friendly posts that include long tail keywords so those who’re searching for something online can find you in the search results. I know both methods may seem contradictory, but I believe both can be done at the same time. Beyond that, make sure to reference past posts within new ones as it has a dual benefit. Not only can it increase blog traffic from an SEO perspective, but it can also keep visitors on your site longer.
As I said in the introduction, blogging is a numbers game. If you intend to increase blog traffic, then having those numbers can be a great tool to shape what you’re doing. If you’re not using Google Analytics, then I highly recommend you start using it now. Not only can it give you insight in to who is visiting your site, but it can also tell you what they’re doing once there. These behavior patterns are invaluable and can help you see what’s working and what’s not working.
It Takes Time to Increase Blog Traffic
If you’re looking at how to increase blog traffic, keep in mind that it does not happen overnight. Getting a nice spike in traffic for a day or two is always nice, but what you want is long and sustainable growth to your blog. That all takes time and work to create. With that in mind, step out into the blogging community, find what works for you and go after it. Just remember to be patient and enjoy your blogging journey. With hard work and commitment you can bring additional visitors to your site – which is the ultimate goal.
