The last few weeks we’ve looked at a number of ways you can build up SEO with your blog and have considered the importance of it. A common misconception about SEO is that it can be too technical or difficult for bloggers, especially if you’re new to blogging. However, there are many SEO tips that aren’t very technical and can be a great way to build up the strength of your site and hopefully allow you to make money blogging in the long run. Let’s take a look at some of these options.
One of the best ways to build up SEO to your site is to be increasingly involved in social media. While Google really isn’t the most clear about what they’re looking for, it is somewhat apparent that getting good social signals from social media/social bookmarking sites is a good thing in their eyes. A big key is to focus on a number of social networks as this will breed diversity and thus improve your SEO profile.
Be A Part of the Blogging Community
Unless the plan for your blog is simply to keep a digital journal, blog promotion is vital to improving your SEO. A great way to accomplish this is through guest posting. While there have been concerns expressed about guest posting lately, if done correctly it can provide a good source of some quality links to your site as well as making yourself known in the blogging community. The key to this though is to write solid content and focus on bloggers you already have a relationship with as many bloggers will not accept a guest post request from someone they do not know.
An often overlooked item when it comes to search engine optimization is diversity – specifically diversity of links coming into your site. If you’re just starting out blogging, it’s likely many of your links are coming from other blogs, which is ok. But, if you want to grow your blog then bringing in links from a variety of sites is essential to build up your SEO strength. There can be a variety of ways to do this from going to blogs outside your specific niche to working with HARO to get potential links/mentions – it just requires a little creativity.
SEO is More Than Just What Happens on Site
While working on building up the SEO strength on your site internally, it’s also important to pay attention to what is coming into your site. That’s why it’s important to get different social sites and other websites pointing to your blog. If one of your goals is to make money blogging, then this is something you’ll want to work on over time and create a diverse SEO profile for your site. As I’ve said in the past though, if you find SEO too technical for you then start out by focusing on one thing and build out from there.
What kind of SEO strategies do you use to bring links to your site? Is there anything else, from an SEO perspective, that you’d like to see covered in future blog posts?
