Everyone Seems to Have SEO Tips and Tricks

If you’re a newbie to SEO, there are a few important things to remember.

First off, the 800 pound gorilla, Google, is not always the most clear in regards to what they’re wanting. This has, on one level, given birth to numerous voices related to search engine optimization which can make it difficult to know what to do in relation to SEO for many.

If you find yourself in this camp, don’t allow it to hold you back from implementing some usage of SEO in your blog posts. Speaking personally, if used with some common sense, taking advantage of some SEO tips can help drive growth of your blog.

Simple SEO Tactics Anyone Can Implement

If you’ve been blogging for long, you’re probably well aware that there are many SEO tools that can be used to help improve your search rankings. What I have found, though, is that some of the best tools to use are the free ones.

  • By using Google Adwords and the auto fill feature in Google search you can easily see what people are searching for and formulate your blog post that way.
  • Beyond that, you want to try on focus on as long of a keyword as naturally possible as it’ll make your post more focused and more likely to be read.
  • No one wants to read something written for a robot, so make sure not to use your keyword more than in 1% of the post (which could also be viewed as keyword stuffing).
  • Make sure that you include your keyword in at least one subhead and the alt tag for your picture (assuming you use one).
  • The last of my SEO tips is to link back to relevant posts you’ve written in the past as it increases the chances of keeping readers on your site longer, but it also can help improve search rankings for the linked posts.

Content is Still King

What has been missing from my SEO tips thus far is the importance of content. At the end of the day, content is still king.

While implementing some SEO tips may bring readers to your site, content is what will keep them there.  Solid content with a little SEO will generally benefit your site much more than a lot of tricks and shallow content.

Think about what you like to read, do you want to read something that’s written well, or do you want to read something written for a robot? Solid content will engage your readers more, which will generally cause them to share your posts socially more – thus attracting more people. This is also not to mention the fact that Google has communicated that they’re looking for solid content and not shallow posts intended to manipulate search rankings.

Great tips Tanya. Hopefully these will help people to overcome their fears that SEO is too technical. My biggest tip would be to never let SEO control a blog post. Always write with your readers in mind and use SEO to enhance your writing. If you let your blog be controlled by what you have learnt about SEO then it has a habit of effecting the quality of your content.

Great tip, Chris! It’s definitely important to remember that your blog is ultimately read by people – not spam bots. Thanks for commenting!

I completely agree with that too! I am new to the world of SEO, but if my mind I write what I want to first. I honestly don’t even look at keywords. I just optimize my posts for SEO after I write them and if people find it based on that, then that is good. Usually I try to base the SEO off of what I would search if I am looking for that specific topic.

My mind is swirling with so much information out there about SEO optimizing, key words, plug ins, widgets. . . hopefully something will start to make sense soon! I’ve got a check list to see that I’ve used key word, headers, and whatever. Most of the time, I just write, proof and publish.
However since I really want to increase the popularity of my blog, I need to put more effort into understanding what all these things actually do and how to use them effectively.
thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.

Pamela, it helps to remember… Just one step at a time. Don’t try to apply everything at once but pick one thing at a time to incorporate into your blogging for improvement. This makes things a lot less overwhelming!

    Hi
Is “good use of” SEO something that just comes with practice? I am VERY new to blogging ( just now doing research on how to set a blog, etc.) I would love see an example of this in action. I just don’t fully understand it.

Your information with regard to content makes so much sense. Very encouraging. Thanks for this post.

Content is still king, but today unlike years ago this includes video, audio and graphical content. Mix them all together and not only do you have a great user experience but also a great boost to SEO.

Thank you for this post. I have not been blogging too long and I am just now learning about SEO’s . I have a little sticky note on my notebook that says “ Use product name “ I fell like I need to go back through and fix some of my older posts so that they can get some acknowledgment too.

SEO to me is bitter sweet. It’s one of those things that seems so easy and simple (once you figure out the basic odds and ends) but it can be so vastly time consuming. It is important, but sometimes its hard to hire a company to do work you know you might be able to do yourself. But, time management is what you have to keep in mind in whether you want to pursue SEO alone or through a third party.

I know a lot of people try to write their sites content with SEO in mind, but in my opinion, content counts and even though key words might help, your content still needs to be attractive to the reader so I think I write more for the viewers of my site than for SEO purposes.

Totally agree with this point that “Content is still king”. After Penguin and Panda update I can say that today all SEO is based on content only. Content should be good quality and unique, it will surely help to improve your rankings for website. Also please do not think about Page Rank, (Forget Pager Rank). Follow Google Guidelines.
