If you don’t know how to be productive…if you don’t know how to make the most out of your time, all of the best techniques and tools in the world won’t make a HUGE and positive impact to your online biz and it’s bottom-line!

Your most important asset in internet marketing (or any business for that matter) is your PRODUCTIVITY.

It all boils down to how much QUALITY work you can finish in the least possible time. It all boils down to working SMARTER not harder.

When you work smarter…when you make the most efficient use of your time, you don’t just get the job done. You get it done and still have plenty of time to do things that you are passionate about…things that you deem important…things that take away the pressure and make you say, “Life is good!”

If you are constantly struggling to juggle everything, if you are always working late, if you are always tired and feeling burned out, then the 3 surefire techniques that follow will help you be productive and have a MORE positive experience in running your online business.

Know When You Are In The Zone

When you are in the zone, you are focused. Your mind is working on its full potential. You are primed up for the task and challenges ahead. Your job is to find that time of the day when you are in this zone.

It differs for everyone. Some people get in the zone during the wee hours of the night. Others find it very easy to step in to the zone. As for me, I’m most pumped up right after getting up from bed (doesn’t matter if it’s in the morning or late at night).

Make it a rule to take advantage of this time of the day. Do the more challenging tasks within this period. It can be writing a post or page for your website / blog. It can be developing and sending out emails and ads to your subscribers. It can be driving traffic to your website via forum comments or SEO. It’s different for everyone but you get the drift.

This also means you have to turn off ALL potential distractions. Log out of your analytics account. Switch your phone to voicemail. Ignore social media (unless that’s part of your daily traffic generation plan).

As much as possible, you want to work in a private space during this time of the day. Failing that, you can get noise-reduction headphones so you won’t get distracted by what’s going on around you.

You’ll be amazed at how much QUALITY work you can finish in an hour’s time!

Know Your Agenda

Before you finish up work and give yourself a pat on the back (we all need it), grab a pen and paper. Write down the most important tasks you need to do the next day. The whole process should only take 10 to 15 minutes.

For online business owners and internet marketers, the most important tasks can be divided into 3 departments: offer and content development, traffic generation, and list building. Find the most important tasks you need to do for each department, and allocate 45-60 minutes for every task/department. Oh! And don’t forget to take a 5 to 10-minute breaks in between. This is crucial for recharging your ‘batteries’.

Forget About Multi-Tasking!

Sounds counter-intuitive, doesn’t it?

After all, the ability to do a couple of things at a time sounds like a VERY valuable skill to have. But think about this: by doing more than one thing at a time, can you give both or even just one of them your single best effort?

NO! So focus on one thing at a time. When you sit at your home office’s desk, go to work. Get it done. Then get out to enjoy your spare time.

This is one of the most important keys to be MORE productive and happier.

Thanks for the pointers on what to focus on while in the zone. I tend to only concentrate on writing. :-)

I get in the zone after taking about 5 minutes to brain dump. I jot down all the distractions and items I think I’m going to forget on paper. This exercise frees my mind to focus on the task at hand and not worry about forgetting something else as I have it written down for later.

Here are few productivity tips that worked well for me:

    >> Whenever I get overwhelmed by something, I just stay away from the computer/Internet, I use only a notepad and pen to get things done at critical times.

    >> Working in small chunks (using pomodoro tool, basically it’s a 25 minute tool, where you can take 5 min breaks after 25 min working!). It’s REALLY a great way to focus on the age of distraction.

    Great thoughts Tanya!
